In February 2005, historian Allen Weinstein was confirmed by the U.S. Senate and began his service as the 9th Archivist of the United States leading the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). A past president of the Center for Democracy, Weinstein was awarded the United Nations Peace Medal in 1986. The stories of the United States and its people are told in the records and artifacts cared for in NARA facilities around the country. NARA operates the Presidential Library System that includes the Clinton Presidential Center.
